What does it mean to be anonymous?
Durham CrimeStoppers is committed to maintaining the tipster’s anonymity. To be anonymous means to remain unnamed. Durham CrimeStoppers will not ask or take tipster’s names. Tipsters are identified by the use of code names and numbers.
How much are the rewards?
The minimum reward paid is $100 and the maximum reward paid is $2,000. The amount depends on the severity of the crime and the type of information provided by the caller. These amounts are determined by the Board of Directors.
Will you reveal who called?
Absolutely not, we don’t know who you are, and we don’t want to know. Durham CrimeStoppers has been around for 30+ years and ensuring the anonymity of our callers has been the foundation for our success. We do not ask for your name, we just want your information.
Are calls recorded?
No, we do not have any telephone recording equipment.
How will I be paid if I am anonymous?
After providing a tip it is up to the tipster to call back to check on the status of the tip. Once a tipster is qualified for a reward CrimeStoppers will coordinate arrangements for tipsters to be paid. Tipsters are often met in public places and paid in cash.
How do I find out if I qualify for a reward?
To check on the status of your tip contact us at 919-683-1200 during office hours of Monday – Friday 08:30 AM to 4:30 PM, or click the “Tip Follow Up” button at the top of this page. Tips take different periods of time to investigate. If you provided information on a wanted person then you can check the status within a few days to find out if your tip led to an arrest. If you provided information that requires additional investigation then you can check back in a few weeks to find out if your tip led to a felony arrest, and if you are qualified for a reward. You can also download the P3 App by clicking on the “Mobile App” tab above. All tips must be claimed within 6 months from the date the tip was provided.
